Helicon

February 7

Helicon blend neo-psych-rock with sitars, electronica, ambient soundscapes and irresistible grooves to take psychedelic music into fresh, new territory. They channel their love for 60s counter-culture and eclectic, global music influences to create a modern and distinctive sound.

Helicon was formed by brothers John-Paul and Gary Hughes in East Kilbride, Glasgow. They signed to Fuzz Club in 2017 and have released 3 studio albums, 2 live albums, 2 EPs and 3 stand-alone singles to date.

Over the last few years, the band have been featured on BBC Radio 6 Music and previously collaborated on recordings with Tony Doogan (Mogwai), Will Carruthers (Spacemen 3, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Spiritualized, Dead Skeletons), Mark Gardener (Ride) and LA-based DJ/producer Al Lover.

“Helicon show that musical borders are there to be broken… A force to be reckoned with.” ~ Shindig

“The difference between Helicon and other ‘psych’ bands is that they have actual songs. Beautifully crafted songs alongside the big psychedelic freakouts” ~ Mark Gardener, RIDE

“I’ve been a fan since their early incarnation. Helicon have a recognisable sound but are always evolving, never afraid to try something new” ~ Martin Bulloch, Mogwai

Kavus Torabi

A British-Iranian musician, composer, record label owner and radio broadcaster Kavus Torabi is a multi-instrumentalist, and is known for his work in the psychedelic, avant-garde rock field (primarily as a guitarist). Torabi was one of the founding members of the Monsoon Bassoon (as singer, guitarist and one of the two primary composers), was a member of the cult rock band Cardiacs, and fronts and plays guitar for the current lineup of legendary psychedelic band Gong.
